The list of the world's most costly cars shifts around a great deal. Indeed, just last week Bugatti regained its crown as builder of "the most expensive new car of all time", with its all-new La Voiture Noire ("the black car" in French).
The dazzling machine, unveiled at this year's Geneva Motor Show, features a carbon fibre body.
An anonymous buyer paid 11 million euro (£9.5m) for the one-off sports car. When tax is added, the vehicle will cost around 16.7 million euro (£14.4m), which makes it the world's most costly runabout.
Here is the rest of the top 10 most costly cars:
2. Rolls Royce Sweeptail - $12,800,000

The magnificent one-off Sweeptail held the top spot since 2017, when it was bought by a private client for a whopping $12,800,000 (£9.8m) inclusive of tax. RR will have to pull out all the stops if it wants to supplant Bugatti's new offering.
3. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita – $4.8 million
This Swedish supercar features a 4.7L V8 (twin supercharged) engine and delivers an eye-watering 1004HP. With a top speed of 254mph, it's rather nippy, too.
4. Lamborghini Veneno Roadster – $4.5 million
The Italian designed-and-built Veneno Roadster looks like something out of a sci-fi film. It can also hit a top speed of 221mph thanks to its meaty 6.5L L539 V12 engine.
5. McLaren P1 LM – $3.6 million
By Matthew Lamb
One of the rarest and most desirable cars ever built by McLaren - or indeed any other marque - the P1 LM has ravishing looks. The 1000HP machine features a 3.8L twin-turbocharged M838TQ V8 which pushes the car to a maximum 147mph.
6. Lykan Hypersport – $3.4 million
The Lykan Hypersport is the first car to be entirely designed and built in the Middle East. It features a 780HP flat six which can propel the eye-catching Lebanese-made sports car to a heady 240mph.
7. Limited Edition Bugatti Veyron by Masory Vivere – $3.4 million
Veyrons of various kinds often find themselves in top-10 lists, invariably because they are so dear. This Masory Vivere version is fitted with an 8.0L, 1200HP engine which delivers a top speed of 253mph.
8. Aston Martin Valkyrie – $3.2 million
By Alexander Migl
This most unique of Astons shows the Gaydon-based carmaker is just as daring as any auto brand. This other-worldly motor features a 6.5L Cosworth naturally aspirated V12, delivering 1000HP and a top speed of 250mph. Only 150 units were built.
9. Ferrari Pininfarina Sergio – $3 million
Another Italian beauty, the Pininfarina Sergio boasts a 4.5L Ferrari F136F V8, whose 570HP helps push the beast to 198mph.
10. Pagani Huayra BC – $2.8 million
Sadly, getting hold of one of these mid-engined thrillers is rather tricky, since only 100 were ever built (plus, each one costs $2.8m). It features a 700HP 6.0L AMG bi-turbo M158 V12 and a top speed of 230mph.
