Finding oneself going the wrong way down a one-way road is something that most drivers have experienced at some point. Apart from being embarrassing, it can be very dangerous.
An extreme instance of a motorist driving the wrong way took place a few days ago on the A43, when an elderly woman tried to merge into traffic on a dual carriageway – but in completely the wrong direction.
Thankfully, a quick-witted lorry driver managed to avert disaster by slowly moving into the driver’s path and blocking her from moving further onto the carriageway.
The gold coloured car didn’t move at first, but after the HGV driver advanced further forwards, the lady put the car into reverse and moved back up the slip road – narrowly avoiding the safety barrier as she did so.
Satisfied that the lady was moving off the busy road, the lorry driver then drove off and continued with his journey.
The incident took place on April 19 and was recorded by the lorry’s dashcam. The son of the HGV driver later uploaded the footage to YouTube and at time of writing has received more than 15,000 views.

Instances of motorists driving in the wrong direction are not uncommon and can be very dangerous. In March a driver was filmed driving down a Nottinghamshire dual carriageway in the wrong direction, having performed a three-point turn in the middle of the busy road, according to onlookers.
