Aston Martin and red Bull Racing have released new images of the forthcoming AM-RB 001, a road-going hypercar built using carbon fibre technologies.

The car will be powered by a naturally-aspirated V12 engine, which will sit in the middle of the machine.

Designed by famed F1 designer Adrian Newey, in conjunction with Marek Reichman and David King of Aston Martin, the AM-RB 001 will have a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1.

In other words, that's an astonishing 1bhp for every single kilo of weight, placing the new hypercar in the same bracket as LMP1 Le Mans sports prototypes.

Newey has harboured a desire to build a road car for some time. He said: "I've always been adamant that the AM-RB 001 should be a true road car that's also capable of extreme performance on track, and this means it really has to be a car of two characters.

"That's the secret we're trying to put into this car - the technology that allows it to be docile and comfortable, but with immense outright capabilities."

Production numbers will be limited, with the road car batch likely to number between 99 and 150 road cars. There will also be 25 track-only versions of the AM-RB 001.

The AM-RB 001 is the inspirational product of this collaborative spirit."

Deliveries of the new car will begin in 2018.

Reports suggest the price tag could be as high as £2.5m.
