The partnership between startrescue.co.uk and Macmillan is officially one year old today! The association sees startrescue.co.uk donate 50p from every sale that is purchased directly through the website. We’re proud to be connected with Macmillan and to assist in raising the awareness of the cancer charity as well as directly helping to fund their crucial work.
It is a real and poignant fact that around 2.5 million people are living with cancer today and that figure is predicted to rise to 4 million by 2030. Over the last 40 years Macmillan has been there to support people living with cancer and their loved ones, from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.
Along with startrescue.co.uk growing their customer base and continuing to exceed in customer satisfaction surveys, Macmillan has also made huge strides in developing their support network. Below we’ve listed just some of their achievements from their most recent annual report.
- In 2015 Macmillan reached 5.8 million people – 2m living with cancer, 3.2m friends and families and 0.6m carers
- Macmillan nurses have gone from helping 250 people a year in 1975 to over 590,000 people in 2015
- The Macmillan Support Line answered almost 144,000 calls and helped over 62,000 people by providing them with expert advice in 2015
- 2015 saw the Macmillan local benefits advice services help over 68,000 people gain over £211 million in benefits
- Improvements made now mean that Macmillan can process grants 75% faster than the charity sector average
