The 2015 British MotoGP will be hosted by Silverstone in Northamptonshire, after a deal between Donington Park and Circuit of Wales fell through.

The event will take place on August 30th.

This year's MotoGP had been set to take place at Donington Park for the first time since 2009, but the venue pulled out of a deal with Circuit of Wales.

The original deal would have seen the event take place at the Circuit of Wales in Rassau, Blaenau Gwent, but planning and funding problems at that site led to a deal with Donignton Park.

However, Donignton Park claims that Circuit of Wales failed to provide funding for track and safety upgrades – a suggestion that Circuit of Wales denies.

Circuit of Wales secured a deal with Barcelona-based rights holders Dorna to hold the British MotoGP for five years.

After the deal with Donington collapsed, a delegation from Silverstone visited the Dorna in Spain, according to MotorCycleWorld.com.

Silverstone made it clear that the track was ready for such an event, and secured the GP for both 2015 and 2016.

Silverstone boss Patrick Allen said, “A lot of work has been done over recent years to ensure MotoGP™ fans enjoy what Silverstone has to offer and it was devastating for the venue to lose the event last autumn.

"Two wheel racing is as much a part of Silverstone’s heritage as four wheel racing and I am obviously delighted to be in a position to announce we are hosting both the F1™ and MotoGP™ Grand Prix in 2015."

Michael Carrick, Chief Executive of Circuit of Wales, said, "We are delighted to secure the future of the event for the next two years while our circuit in Walesis under construction.  Today’s announcement ensures we will have the 2015 British Round of MotoGP™."
