Unveiled at Intermot this month, Honda's new Fireblade models are unexpected and very exciting – especially for fans of the original 1992 project.

As with the original 25 years ago, the new bikes are focussed on optimal power-to-weight ratio, cornering ability, braking – and acceleration.

However, experts say Honda has ditched the rulebook for these latest models, enlisting a new 5-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to assist the rider in every plane, as well as Öhlins S-EC suspension front and rear.


SP

The SP model is a full 14kg lighter than the outgoing Blade, coming in at 197kg. The bike will be on show in the UK at Motorcycle Live 19-27 November:


SP2

Using the SP as a base, the SP2 takes the Fireblade to new heights. Commentators suggest the SP2 has incredible racing potential thanks to its engine setup, which is based on technology derived from its RC213V.

More than 80 HRC kit parts will be made available for the SP2 – among them Race ECU, titanium exhaust, swingarm, cylinder components, uprated brakes and minimised wiring harness. Naturally, none of these upgrades are for use on the Queen's Highway.

Full engine performance is unleashed by the SP KIT, complete with Race ECU, HRC camshafts, valve springs and full exhaust system.

Billed as the UK's largest motorcycle show, Motorcycle Live takes place in the NEC Birmingham. Adult tickets cost £19, while 11-16 year olds can visit for just £1 – and those aged 10 and under get in free. Seniors (65+) can enter for £12.
