Volkswagen has unveiled a new crossover concept called the T-Roc at the Geneva motor show, due to hit showrooms in three years.
While this two-door version may raise a few eyebrows, a five-door model is likely to be developed for use in the real world.
Under the bonnet is VW's 180bhp diesel engine, and updated seven speed DSG and a four wheel drive system called 4Motion.
The styling of this new SUV may not be to everyone's liking, but VW have certainly come up with something original looking – perhaps keen to offer a distinctive design in order to compete with the likes of the Nissan Juke or the Land Rover Evoque.
The Polo-sized vehicle dazzled the auto-press in Geneva with all the to-be-expected chromium bells and whistles. The street version is likely to be a little more suburban in design – appropriate enough since that is where it will probably be used most. But just in case owners want an off-road jolly, or to help recover a little hatchback vehicle in the mud (such as VW used to make), the T-Roc should oblige.
VW's MBQ variable platform is found here, as it is on so many VW and Audi products.
Keen to gate-crash the global SUV party, VW has other crossover models in the offing too: the Taigun next year, and a forthcoming Countryman style SUV.
And that's before the Tiguan and Touareg get revamps.
