The BBC's most lucrative export, Top Gear, hit our screens with a season finale that surely ranks among the show's finest.
It wasn't easy to top last week's effort, but somehow they managed it. Will we ever tire of seeing three middle aged men behave like 13 year olds in some of the world's most sensitive areas? It seems not.
Despite the inherent danger of passing through Myanmar's Shan state, this sequence was perhaps one of the more low-key, aside from the final crazy party, resulting in an impressive Hammond hangover.
Very bumpy roads, unreliable trucks and stunning Myanmar vistas made this a 'something for everyone' section. They managed to keep their rides going, but Clarkson and Co would hardly be good candidates for the world’s best car breakdown cover providers.
The requisite immature pranks were in full evidence throughout the show, highlights of which include tipping a dozing Clarkson out of his vehicle, and peeing in Hammond's shower system.
The final Bridge on the River Kwai sequence was packed with more japery – some of it no doubt scripted – but no less amusing for being so. Building a load-bearing, bamboo bridge is no easy task, as our trio discovered.
Top Gear seems to be more of an on-the-road comedy show these days, rather than a programme about cars. One wonders if they’ll get back to basics next season?
However, if ratings – or indeed international sales – are anything to go buy, the producers of this show will not be looking these three middle-aged gift horses in their respective mouths.
