A teacher recently felt the full force of the law when she was found guilty of adding stickers to her car in order to change its appearance and avoid losing her licence.
Olivia Flood, 27, was caught speeding twice in a 30mph zone, but tried to fool the authorities into thinking her car was not the one caught on camera – by adding the stickers. She was wrongly under the impression that she would lose her licence if she were caught twice.
In court she explained that she did not want to lose her licence because she planned to drive her pupils to Edinburgh to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
Along with adding GB stickers to her car, Flood also added a tax disc holder and a tow bar holder.
DVLA suspicions were raised when she sent in images of her car.
Flood received a 6 month sentence, suspended for 12 months. She was also ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £500 in costs. She is expected to retain her teaching position.
Edinburgh road trip
While Flood’s motives were to avoid missing out on a school road trip to Edinburgh, the best piece of road trip advice for her would surely have been to adhere to the speed limits. Being aware of the actual law regarding speeding (i.e. that 6 points does not lead to a driving ban) would also have been beneficial.
