Tyre adverts are not particularly memorable, but one Japanese tyre maker has released what may be the scariest advert for anything, let alone tyres. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54U6BgYuJMY
So spooky is the commercial that a warning is issued at the start: not for those with a feint heart. The video features a point-of-view shot from a car driving along a tree-lined road, on which snow falls heavily; two Japanese male voices can be heard talking as the vehicle tears through the blizzard.
What happens next is rather scary.
Tyre commercials are usually fairly dry, but one or two have harnessed humour as a way of boosting sales. Goodyear’s ‘Runflat’ is one such example, where a couple prepare for an amorous encounter but the presence of a waterbed leads to a serious and very watery puncture. This advert makes having a flat tyre seem rather easy to deal with.

Bridgestone, too, have used humour in their adverts. The following example also relates the ruining of a love life; a dog discovers his sweetheart has been playing away with another hound – and not even a good looking one at that.

However, as memorable as the Bridgestone and Goodyear commercials are, they didn’t cause quite the same stir as the Japanese effort, which has been picked up by multiple news portals thanks to its overwhelmingly scary nature.
But there is a serious side to tyres. After all, they are one of the most important components of a car and should be checked regularly. Whether you are planning a long trip somewhere, or are perhaps taking out our short term European cover to go driving on the continent this winter, you should always examine your tyres for wear and tear. And keep an eye out for spooky figures in the snow
