As part of Renault's intentions to cement its strong position in the European van market, the firm's Trafic has been re-designed.
Going by sketches released by the French auto-giant the new-look Trafic will be a striking vehicle.
Discussing the new design, Kihyun Jung, the updated Renault Trafic’s designer, said, “Its lines embody Renault’s new brand identity. My aim was to achieve a dynamic, assertive stance without sacrificing either the robustness or user-friendliness customers expect of their van.”
Sharing a platform with the updated Vauxhall Vivaro, the third generation Trafic is a medium sized all-round panel van. Sales for the sister product, the Vivaro, were a healthy 44,000 over 2013, but the French sibling has traditionally done less well.
Despite the Gallic badge, however, the new Trafic is actually built in Luton, UK, alongside the Vivaro, making it the first Renault to be made in Britain for 30 years.
Since the Vivaro has received some criticism for its looks, the Renault version may look to use better styling as a way to out-perform the Vivaro.
The Renault Trafic has a long 34 year history and has sold an impressive 1.6 million units over the last three-and-a-half decades.
If the specifications of the new Trafic are comparable to the outgoing version, then buyers can expect a four cylinder, two-litre diesel engine at the heart of the range. It will probably meet or exceed other features on the old version, such as USB connectivity and 16 inch wheels.
By the same token, prices for the new Traffic will probably start at around £15,000 for an entry level model.
