A startrescue.co.uk story...

Sometimes I find I really get drawn to little cars, not big ones. I have often found smaller cars to have a little bit more soul than their bigger brothers, but recently I’ve gone one step further. I was only vaguely aware of the Renault Twizy from 2009, but I saw it advertised again recently on the internet. I have to admit I was quite taken with it. I thought to myself, if everyone drove a car like this, CO2 levels would plummet and we would be able to expand two lane roads to four lanes, thereby almost eradicating tail backs of all kinds. And for those who get stuck in daily traffic jams to and from work, the Twizy could save a great deal of money that might currently be spent on petrol.

But how practical is this little electric car? How often would I have to call my car breakdown service provider? These questions were overshadowed, however, by the fact that if anything larger than a modest hatchback collided with the Twizy, the little French buggy would likely come off much worse – as would its driver.

Safety aside, it would also be problematic to take the wife, kids, granny, granddad and the dog with you for Sunday drives.

And as a vehicle for attracting the ladies, few modes of transport would do quite as much damage to your love life than a Renault Twizy. But having said all that, there’s something quite magical about a car you could get six of into your garage, one that will never need a drop of petrol – and one that will certainly turn a few heads (even if it’s for the wrong reasons).
