Images and details of McLaren's new supercar, the 650S, have been revealed in the run-up to the Geneva Motor Show, where it will be unveiled.
The 207mph automotive will join the 12C Coupe, 12C Spyder and the P1, giving McLaren lovers four cars to choose from. Taking learnings from the P1 model development, the 650S is based on the 12C – but is apparently more pleasant to drive and more powerful.
Bhp has been ramped up from 616bhp in the 12C to 641bhp in the 650S, enabling the twin-turbocharged V8 to hit 62mph from standstill in 3 seconds, and 124mph in 8.4 seconds.
Rather than being a competitor to the Ferarri 459 Speciale as some have suggested, the 650S is meant to be an improved version of the 12C. Gearshift speed and brake and throttle responses have all been improved, says the supercar maker.
High speed turn-ins are described by the firm as "much, much better", while bodyroll has been reduced and drifting has been made easier.
If you have a spare £195,000 you can buy a 650s in Coupe style from March, or a Spyder version for £215,000 upwards. While costly, these prices are considerably less than the £866,000 demanded for a P1 hypercar. All 375 planned examples have been pre-ordered already, with 40 complete.
The hard-top version is expected to be most popular.
McLaren believes it will build 1,300 12C and 650S models over 2014.
