A startrescue.co.uk story...

No breakdown repair insurance provider in Europe would have been able to get Pietro Scavone and his navigator, Diego D’Herin's, car back on the road after it crashed on Sunday.

The Renault Clio Super 1600 flipped over as it took a corner at speed during the Jolly Rally Valle D'Aosta in North West Italy, around an hour’s drive north of Turin. Video footage captures the moment that up to nine people escaped without injury after being perilously close to the stricken car.

The spectators were watching on the bend – a popular vantage point on the circuit – as the car approached and somehow managed to move out of the way in the split second it took for the car to lose control. It appears that the Renault took the bend too fast.

Given the violence of the impact and proximity to spectators, it is incredible that nobody was hurt.

And fortunately neither the driver nor the navigator were hurt in the accident, although they were taken to hospital for precautionary tests.

One spectator is believed to have been taken to hospital for shock, which given the footage is easy to understand.

Both the front and the rear of the Renault sustained extremely heavy damage.

The race was stopped as soon as the crash took place.
