The long awaited Jaguar F-Type wowed sports car fans when it was launched in 2013, but only a soft top convertible was available initially.
Now, Jaguar Cars has released Coupe S version – and the critics love it. The V6 version ranges in price from £51,235 to £85,000 and delivers a top speed of up to 171mph, depending on the engine selected.
The 5.0 litre V8 ramps up the top speed to a very-respectable 186mph. But the mpg drops, so any owner should ensure they fill-up before standing on it, otherwise a call to their vehicle recovery provider may soon be in order.
The more affordable V6 version can reach 62mph from standstill in 4.9 seconds, delivering 31mpg (EU Combined). CO2 emissions stand at 213g/km.
The Coupe S will no doubt offer stiff competition to Jaguar’s sports car adversaries – the majority of which hail from Germany; The Porsche Cayman S PDK (£50,705 upwards), the BMW i8 (£95,000 upwards) and the Mercedes-Benz SL 350 AMG (£69,960 upwards).
Under the stewardship of Tata Motors, Jaguar Cars has big ambitions; it already enjoys the accolade of having been the quickest growing premium auto maker in 2013. The Coupe S could accelerate this further.
Reviews of the Coupe S so far have been very positive, with The Telegraph and Auto Express giving it 5/5, as well as Autocar 4.5/5. Attention has been called to the ostentatious set of 21 badges that adorn the interior and exterior, plus the touchscreen console has been criticised for being a little outdated. But the build quality and general refinement of the Coupe S has been highly praised, meeting the very high expectations set for it.
