A startrescue.co.uk story...

With its release back in October, Audi enthusiasts everywhere are no doubt aware of the 2014 RS7. Die-hard lovers of the high-end German brand are perhaps keen to see the RS7 as a supercar, but others are not so sure.

Indeed, what does make a supercar? If it's speed you're after, the new Audi has that – 189mph, but that's with the ‘Dynamic Plus’ limiter. The standard version is fitted with a German limiter, keeping speeds down to a not-quite-pedestrian 155mph. Those who aren’t sure can try the middle-ground ‘Dynamic’ limiter which permits 174mph.

(As vehicle recovery providers, here at startrescue.co.uk we naturally don’t like high speeds like these, but in the world of supercars we realise they are a must!)

If a big price tag is a sign of a supercar, then the RS7 does OK, requiring you to stump up £83,495. That's not too much for a 'supercar' and is indeed £14,000 cheaper than an M6 Gran Coupe from BMW. However, it does cost £1,500 more than a Mercedes CLS 63 AMG.

It has the same 4 litre V8 engine as the entry-level Bentley Continental – so it gets points there, although ‘entry-level’ isn't entirely super.

It can reach 60mph in just 3.8 seconds – thanks to its much-vaunted Quattro system and smart rear differential. That's pretty super.

And those who've felt the acceleration of an RS7 report a number of emotive reactions, ranging from involuntary whooping to gripping their seat. Those are quite super responses.

While a reported fuel economy of 28.8mpg sounds pretty bad, actual reports of the RS7's appetite for petrol put it in the low 20s. This is terrible – but kind of gets the vehicle a few super-car points.

And these mpg figures are when the car shuts off four of its eight cylinders.

That sounds really super.
