Many UK families will be planning a trip to the continent during the forthcoming half term, and many of those will be travelling in their own car.
But with high profile news items regarding Ebola –which has arrived in Europe – and Isis activity on the Syrian-Turkish border, does a European road trip carry any risks?
Ebola in SpainWith the sad news that a nurse in Madrid has contracted the Ebola virus, some travellers may be considering cancelling any holiday in Spain. But the chances of catching the disease are low. However, as the Foreign Office says on its website: "Although the chances of being infected remain very low, there are measures you can take to prevent catching Ebola." It then suggests visiting the National Travel Health Network and Centre – www.nathnac.org

What about my road trip in Turkey? Is Isis a threat?While news that Isis is near the Turkish-Syrian border may be worrying, given the vast size of the Turkish army, it is very unlikely that Isis would get a single foot over the border. Add to this the fact that most of Turkey's best cities, resorts and attractions are far to the west, it’s clear that there is very little risk indeed. Additionally, the FCO only urges travellers to stay away from the border area.
