More than 75 per cent of car buyers admit to feeling out of their depth, with little or no confidence in their ability to make the right decision. A revealing statistic which says as much about the reputation of car salesmen – stereotypical as it may be – as it does about the stresses of choosing a new vehicle.
The research has been published by used car website www.carmony.co.uk. Other headline-grabbing stats reveal that more than a quarter of Brits have regretted their choice soon after making it, and that one in five buyers don’t actually test-drive a car before signing on the dotted line. As far as I’m concerned, they’ve only got themselves to blame!
By chance, on the same day the study results were given, the winner of the first annual Golden Garages Award was announced. If you live in south London you might be interested to know it’s an independent family-run outfit called Kinghams of Croydon. If you don’t live nearby, check out www.motorcodes.co.uk which is the body that’s given the award. It operates the UK’s largest consumer code for motorists, identifying responsible garages and encouraging the sector to raise and maintain a high standard of customer service. More than 6,200 garages in the UK have already subscribed to the code, and you can find one near you through the website. Worth knowing, I’d say.
