The collision between one of Prince Harry's outriders and a Toyota Prius will no doubt have reminded many of our motorbike breakdown cover customers of the importance of safe riding in urban areas.
One cyclist, who did not wish to be named, said he saw the Prince's two blacked-out Range Rovers and four police motorbikes go past at "incredibly high speed," reported the Daily Mail.
The collision took place near Regent's Park on Prince Albert Road at 9.40am on the 11th September.
Both the outrider from the Special Escort Group and the driver of the Prius were injured in the incident. The outrider was discharged from hospital in the evening, while the Prius driver is said to be in a stable condition.
It appears that the Prince's driver was reacting in line with anti-terrorist training when he expertly drove past the wreckage and came to a halt some distance along the road.
According to the Daily Mail, one bystander said he could see Harry had ‘concern etched on his face’, as he kept looking back at the crash scene, sometimes with his head in his hands.
Prince Harry was on his way to an Invictus Games event in north London when the incident took place.
Members of the London Fire Brigade had to cut the roof off the Prius in order to rescue the driver.
The Special Escort Group is part of the Metropolitan Police and provides armed motorcycle escorts to members of the Royal family, certain members of the government, as well as heads of state and dignitaries from overseas. It also provides protection to convoys carrying hazardous materials and guards high risk prisoners in transit.
