It might be tiny, but wedged as it is between Germany, France and Belgium, you may well find yourself in or near Luxembourg if you’re planning a driving holiday in Europe this summer.
But as well as being a place you might travel through in order to get somewhere else, Luxembourg also offers a great deal to enjoy in its own right.
With the Cathedral Notre Dame, the Grand Ducal Palace and a multitude of museums and historic sites – there is plenty to see and do in Luxembourg.
And as well as ensuring your car breakdown insurance is up to date, there are a few other things you should be aware of if you’re thinking of heading Luxembourg’s way this summer.
Many of the driving regulations in the UK exist in Luxembourg too; the compulsory wearing of seatbelts in front and rear as well as serious implications for drink driving are just two.
But you will also be required to carry at least one high visibility vest on board, together with a warning triangle in the event that you break down.
You should also be aware that the legal driving age is 18 (for either a car or a motorcycle) – one year older than in the UK.
Familiarising yourself with the local speed limits and being aware that Luxembourg authorities are as fond of the speed camera as their UK counterparts is also a good idea.
If you do receive a fine for any reason, you should make sure you get a receipt from the officer who gave it to you.
While this is not an exhaustive list of things to consider before you take to the road in Luxembourg, bearing them in mind should mean you have a pleasant driving holiday in this most unique of countries.
