If you’ve seen or heard about the Gumball Rally, and thought: “what a load of show-offs,” then a Crumball Rally could be the perfect antidote.
The Crumball Rally actually encompasses a number of different rallies, such as the Italian Job (from Reims in France to Turin in Italy), Mission Impossible (Reims–Prague) and ‘Allo ‘Allo (across France, Belgium and Luxembourg). All the rallies are based on films and TV shows, and anyone with an adventurous spirit and an unashamedly eccentric streak can take part.
There’s also one more crucial proviso, however: that your car must cost £200 or less. As you can imagine, with such a group of bangers making their way across Europe’s highways, there are a fair amount of breakdowns, particularly from overheating engines in the summer sun. Of course, as always, the peace of mind offered by some good value car breakdown cover can mitigate such worries.
Indeed, the risk of breakdown may be part of the fun, with cars frequently ending up a long way from their daily target destinations. But at least car breakdown service providers can spot their clients easily: this year’s Italian Job featured a Thomas the Tank engine car, a country cottage complete with thatched roof and picket fence, and an assortment of rusting old classics that any sane-minded person would think twice about stepping into.
