If you are in the market for a vehicle that can carry your entire family, a few pets and enough luggage for a driving holiday on the continent (with startrescue.co.uk’s great value breakdown cover for Europe of course), then you may have your eye on the latest incarnation of Citroen’s C4 Picasso. Here we take a look at what the UK’s motoring press are saying about this significantly updated version…
What Car?
The experts at What Car? Give the new C4 a favourable review, praising its spaciousness and low running costs. However, the touch-screen controls have been overloaded with functions, and the ride quality is found wanting. While the top-end versions get the best safety and security features, the entry level version gets the thumbs up for the level of equipment on offer. 4/5
Top Gear
Top Gear points out that the new C4 really is new, based as it is on PSA’s new modular technology, meaning there is more space for both passengers and luggage. The new platform is also a good deal lighter, and with weight savings in other parts of the car, this version is around 140kg lighter than the previous incarnation. Calling a spade a spade, Citroen have made a multi-personnel vehicle that does not pretend to be a sporty hatchback. Top Gear also highlights the car’s impressive (official) 70mpg fuel economy credentials. 7/10
Car Buyer
The auto-boffins at Car Buyer are pleased with the C4’s compact dimensions and its snazzy interior. It also lauds the French (although the car is Spanish built) outfit’s range of engines and the fact it has the largest boot in the compact MPV class. Car Buyer is also a big fan of the current version’s lower weight, helping to get the mpg figures fairly high – especially in the diesel versions. 4/5
