The luxury car brand Bristol Motors featured in this blog not so long ago, due to the fact the 66 year old car brand had gone into administration. Sad news for the UK car industry and of course the 22 people who lost their jobs. But a rescue has come in the form of Kamkorp Autokraft, a Swiss company (owned by UK based Frazer Nash) that was selected by administrators RSM Tenon as the best option.
It is excellent news for this very high quality, niche luxury car brand; which, while it was making vehicles that seldom suffered a car breakdown, nevertheless suffered a breakdown in its financial management. These days, nationality seems to have less and less relevance in business, and this goes for quaint little British car companies too; it’s a UK brand, rescued by a Swiss company, which in turn is owned by a British company. The ins and outs of such a deal are far beyond me, but I think it’s important that someone came along and pulled Bristol Cars from possible oblivion.
I wasn’t very familiar with these cars before I heard the news that the company had gone into receivership, and I have to say that some of their models would take a bit of getting used to, for me at least. The Fighter is a unique looking model, but the headlamps don’t really do it for me; and the Blenheim Speedster is a little too frog-like for my own tastes. But one model that I do love the look of is the Series 6, which looks very special indeed – a boxy, Mustang look to it, with a smidgen of classic Saab.
With luck, Bristol Motors will continue making eye opening cars like this for many years to come.
