No apologies for writing about MINI twice in a week. I hadn’t planned to, but then this is such a great story. The company is moving beyond cars for the first time, and here’s the official sketch that proves it. This is a MINI scooter that’s being previewed at next month’s Paris Motor Show.
What’s most interesting about this is that six months ago I had a chat with a man called Dr Wolfgang Armbrecht. He’s senior vice-president of brand management at MINI, and told me at the Geneva Motor Show back in March that the company would soon be making more than four-wheelers.
His exact words were (and I’ve lifted this straight from the story I wrote at the time): “You can imagine a MINI pick-up, but why should it not be possible to go beyond vehicles? We could do scooters. Why not?
It could be the case we do electronic products. Why not? We could do a phone, a bicycle. We are open to these things.”
