The current floods are on the minds of many motorists at the present time, with many minor roads covered in standing water, and the risk of engine or electrical damage present for those who attempt to drive through such water volumes.
But spare a thought for one Audi RS5 owner who, having left his £60,000 sports car under a railway bridge in Chertsey, Surrey, has had their pride and joy stripped down to the chassis. The car, which had been abandoned since before New Year's Day, would once have had a powerful 4.2 litre V8 engine at its heart, but that has now vanished – along with the seats, wheels, panels, brakes and rear-view mirrors. Only the chassis remains.
Seemingly devoured by mechanised piranhas, the car stood in three feet of floodwater in a road that had been closed for a long time.
One individual living nearby said: "At first someone just smashed the windows, but over the last month, more and more parts have been pinched from it.
"I can't believe it. Whoever the owner is of that car, they're not going to be best pleased. It wasn't even in the way – it was moved to a siding so people could get past it.
The Surrey Constabulary have not received any report of a stolen car, and are looking into the incident as a case of criminal damage.
Sports cars are not an uncommon sight in Chertsey, or Surrey as a whole, which is thought to be home to more millionaires than any other county.
