The Can-Am Spyder bridges that gap between a motorcycle and a car – a gap that most people thought was explored sufficiently by Del Boy's three wheeler in Only Fools and Horses during the Eighties.
But the Can-Am Spyder is rather more alluring than that old yellow Robin Reliant, with its two wheels at the front rather than the rear and space-age looks that are sure to grab the attention of passers-by.
Limited to 125mph, those lucky enough to have test driven a Spyder say that any faster than this speed and the wind becomes a little too much to deal with – especially if you drive it without a helmet which, surprisingly, is not illegal.
And despite its bike-like looks, it can be driven with a regular car license, so if you have your eye on one you won't have to spend an entire Saturday weaving in and out of CBT cones.
Many reviewers have given the new Can-Am the thumbs up, although some have voiced concerns over its ability to deal with rush hour traffic; it certainly doesn't have the two-wheeler's ability to get past long traffic queues.
But it’s on the open road where this machine excels – ideally a sunny one.
Some of our motorbike breakdown cover customers looking for slightly more safety and stability on the road may love this vehicle, while some of our car breakdown customers may love it precisely because it offers slightly less– of both.
The 1,300cc 2014 Can-Am starts from £20,899 and is available to UK buyers now.
