Bringing a whole new meaning to the term 'teaser image', McLaren only revealed a wheel of its forthcoming 675LT model, due to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
This new “Longtail” version of the 650S will carry less weight and deliver more power than the previous model.
McLaren says the 675LT is an homage to the F1 GTR “Longtail”, which enjoyed success during the 1990s as a sports car racer.
The name of the new car comes from its power rating; the mid-mounted 3.8-litre twin-turbo engine produces 675 PS or Pferdestärke (horse-strength in German). That equates to 666bhp – a notable increase on the 641bhp boasted by the 650S.
While McLaren has been keeping exact details under wraps, the car is expected to outpace the 650S's 207mph top speed, while being able to hit 62mph in less than three seconds.
The 675LT will also produce more downforce and be lighter than the older model. Owners will enjoy better high-speed stability thanks to the elongated rear, giving the vehicle its "Longtail" name. There will also be a number of other styling tweaks.
Those among our breakdown repair insurance customers keen to order a 675LT will be able to do so later in the year – but only as a coupé.
McLaren lovers will have another treat to look forward to at Geneva, as the British sports car firm's brand new P1 GTR will be appearing next to the 675LT.
