A startrescue.co.uk story...

If the question – what do women actually want? – is something of a challenge to answer, then perhaps we can shed some light on what kind of motor they like to drive. Indeed, this is a question pre-occupying the world’s car designers, since the female auto-pound (dollar, euro, yen) is becoming more and more important.

So let’s take a guess. Do they want a small city car that gets them around the shops effortlessly? Not really. Do they want a soft top that lets their hair blow in the wind? Not so much.

What they really want – particularly those with a sizeable salary – can be largely defined by two recent cars that women like a great deal. The first is the very cat-like Jaguar XF. Monstrous engine, superb road holding, all the latest technological gadgets a lady could need. But more than anything, Jag’s designer Ian Callum appears to have tapped into an aesthetic design that women really adore.

The other car loved by women is the BMW 5 Series – another luxury saloon that brims with the latest techie gadgets and is powered by a very gutsy engine indeed. And the overall look of the car has little in common with what one might think appeals to women in car design. Surely they’d prefer a mini, a micra – maybe even Land Rover Evoque – but a 5 Series?

If all this comes as a shock to our male readers – just look at the credentials of these machines: good looking, powerful, able to do many things at once – sound familiar? No, we didn’t think so.

But at least both sexes agree on which is the best car breakdown cover to take out – startrescue.co.uk’s!
