While here at startrescue.co.uk we cover drivers for motoring in the UK and right across Europe, there are, at present, a few places we don’t cover. One of those is Iran. Another is Russia. But it is countries like these, along with dozens of others, which are of interest to Emma Smart and Andy Smith from Weymouth, who are planning to drive around the world.
Their ‘adventure-mobile’, which is an 18 year old Toyota 4x4, will with luck, see them take in some incredible sights as they drive around the world. On the subject of Iran, they point out that 95% of the country is completely safe. Indeed, many travellers say it is one of the friendliest places they have visited.
The couple have taken 18 months to prepare and save up for the trip, which will last 800 days. Friends, family and neighbours have expressed their surprise at the couple’s desire to drive around the world, but it has been a long held dream for both to attempt the trip.
Emma was inspired by her intrepid grandfather who took her on a trip to Nepal when she was just 16, as well as the sudden loss of a friend several years ago, reminding her how short life is.
For those who are inspired by Emma and Andy, but aren’t quite ready to take on Iran or Russia, why not enjoy a warm-up trip on the continent this summer? But don’t forget your breakdown cover for Europe!
