2014 may see up to 22 racing events on the Formula One calendar. New Jersey and Mexico have both been provisionally accepted as venues, alongside Korea.
The New Jersey race – the Grand Prix of America – should have taken place this year, but due to financial issues, was cancelled.
If it goes ahead, 2014’s New Jersey race will take place on June 1st, and will be followed by the Canadian Grand Prix . The race is set to take place along the Hudson River, with New York’s skyscrapers in the background.
The Korean Grand Prix, pencilled in for the 27th of April, is one of the least-definite events, as it has yet to secure a commercial deal.
On November 16th, for the first time since 1992, Mexico will host a Grand Prix race, followed two weeks later by the iconic Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo.
In the UK, June 6 looks set to be a bumper day of sport, with both the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Championship and the British Grand Prix taking place.
If all the races go ahead, it will be longest racing calendar of all time, surpassing 2012’s 20 race schedule. Some question whether the racing teams will put up with such a long sequence of races, since each additional race puts huge pressure on the team drivers, engineers and logistics personnel.
With so many extra laps to contend with, the track vehicle recovery operators may be working overtime in 2014.
