A startrescue.co.uk story...

This year’s What Car? JD Power Survey has revealed how much the UK car industry has improved over the last decade, with Land Rover making particularly good progress. The company has leapt up the annual customer satisfaction survey from 12th to 6th. In 2004, Land Rover was in an uninspiring 32nd.

Meanwhile, Jaguar, Land Rover’s sister company, has retained the top position for the second year running. The previous 11 years have seen Lexus on top. Back in 2004, Jaguar was ranked 13th in the survey.

Jaguar Land Rover is owned by Indian company TATA, which provided a much needed injection of funding, but left both firms free to develop new products as they saw fit. It has been suggested that a big reason for the improvement in the reliability of Jaguars and Land Rovers is that their suppliers now deliver better quality parts.

5 of the top 10 car makers have UK production facilities, suggesting that there has been a resurgence in the reliability and build quality of British cars. UK-made cars were once infamous for their reliability problems, and lagged behind cars from countries such as Germany and Japan. But after more than a decade of foreign investment, things have turned around dramatically.

Japanese car makers such as Honda and Nissan have set up factories and introduced new production practices that have meant their UK plants produce cars every bit as good as those made in Japan.

So it seems UK built cars are among the least likely to have you calling upon your car breakdown cover provider.
