A startrescue.co.uk story...

Britain might be sliding towards winter with its nose just above the icy waves of economic uncertainty, but as a nation we still love buying new cars. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), we've managed to buy 83,823 more cars than we did by this time last year. The year-to-date total is 1,771,681.

Petrol and diesel cars are still by far the most popular, with an almost 50-50 share of all car sales. The small remainder is comprised of alternative fuel vehicles, the sales of which currently number 24,226 for 2012, up from 21,455 to the end of October 2011.

Below is a list of the top 10 most popular new cars in Britain:

10. Fiat 500

9. Mercedes-Benz C-class

Following this is the Vauxhall Corsa, another long-standing and diminutive favourite that nips around our narrow streets without harming the fuel fund too much. If you're looking for a reliable new car as well as an irresistible breakdown cover quote, it seems you've found both on one site.
