A Porsche 911 without a roof? By rights it shouldn’t really work, but with the 911 Cabriolet, Porsche are giving it a shot. The traditional configuration of the 911 has always been better suited to being a coupé, but where there’s a market, there’s a way.
Anyone who’s tried to squeeze themselves into the backseat of a 911 will know the contortionism required to complete the feat, but the Cabriolet offers a little more space. Just as well, since this model is aimed towards a more family-minded buyer who might otherwise choose a slightly-less-cool BMW or Mercedes.
This model, whilst having to make a few concessions in order to attract the right audience, is still a sporty little number that offers the same growling exhaust note you expect from a Porsche, together with a whole host of technological gizmos. Heated and cooled seats, heated steering wheel and electronically operated wind deflector are just a few of the most eye-catching.
The boffins at Porsche have had to re-jig things a little for this model, but there’s nothing that should tax your car breakdown cover provider too much; it’s still as reliable as ever. And at £80,000, one would expect nothing less.
