You don't necessarily need to take out breakdown cover for Europe in order to enjoy the best in motorbike routes. The Cat and Fiddle run from Buxton to Macclesfield is considered by many to be the best in (or just off ) the continent.
Also known by its official name, the A537, this 11 kilometre long route is surrounded by picturesque Peak District countryside. But the view is really for car drivers; motorcyclists come here for the adrenaline rush.
Care must be taken by any biker who ventures here. Not for nothing has it been labelled 'Britain's Most Dangerous Road'. A 50mph speed limit has helped to douse the the adrenal urges of most bikers, though, keeping the majority of two-wheeled visitors firmly in their saddles.
If you're considering trying the route, it's best to depart from the Macclesfield end, taking care in the many-cornered first section. Ensure you keep your eyes on the upcoming bends, as they get tighter and tighter. Once you reach the moor, the bends open out a fair bit, and you get some great views.
They say that driving a car is like watching a film, while riding a bike is like being in one. No doubt this notion will make a lot more sense by the time you've reached the Cat and Fiddle pub, where you can enjoy a coffee and discuss your escapades with the many other motorcyclists who flock to this world-beating motorcycle route.
