As the latest James Bond film, Skyfall, is about to open in cinemas across the country, we take a look at some of the best vehicles to have appeared in the franchise, as it marks its 50th anniversary. This milestone is being celebrated by a special exhibition at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu – where fifty Bond vehicles will be on display.
Submarine Lotus
This is surely one of the most iconic of all Bond vehicles, possessing the ability to dive as well as drive – and look effortlessly cool whilst doing so. The car appeared in 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me, and the underwater scenes were created using a combination of models in different stages of transformation as well as a submarine version of the car. Any attempt to use the real car underwater would surely cause the production company's vehicle recovery breakdown cover to be called upon.
Aston Martin DB5
This car appeared in the very first Bond film, Goldfinger, in 1965. It was fitted with a bullet proof panel, tyre slashers and numerous other anti-villain gadgetry. It was named as the best Bond car by the Times in 2008. Such was its iconic status, it came back several times in other Bond films, and will also appear in the latest film, Skyfall.
Aston Martin DBS
The DBS appeared in 2006's Casino Royale and is surely one of the finest modern Bond cars. It also holds the record for the highest number of stunt rolls in any film.
Skyfall will be released on the 26th of October.
