The Motoring Industry in 2012: who will be the big players? What new technology will we find on the forecourts of our local car retailers? While economic and political challenges make predicting how the motor industry will develop pretty tough, there are some developments that we can count on.

The big battle in the UK and Europe will no doubt be fought between fierce rivals Volkswagen and Fiat - who will be launching the ‘Up’ and the new ‘Panda’ respectively. The chief executives of each - Martin Winterkorn and Sergio Marchionne - are certainly not on best terms and watching these two giants of the automotive world battle it out will be almost as interesting as the cars themselves.

Other highlights include the forthcoming Toyota GT 86/Subaru BRZ rear drive coupe and the Chinese built MG3 (but UK assembled) which will rival the Ford Focus. Yet another Volkswagen Golf will present itself, and we'll see the new replacement for the Range Rover.

If recession does indeed return to Europe as predicted, it looks set to be a tough year ahead for car makers and forecourts. This prospect hasn't dampened the determination of the big players however and we'll see some of the most efficient and innovative automotive technology ever to grace our roads.

It's all change in the world of motoring, but startrescue.co.uk will continue to provide reliable, affordable and flexible breakdown cover for UK motorists, offering everything from first class annual policies to short term European cover.
