The Auto Express Driver Power Survey, created in association with the Daily Telegraph, has revealed the UK’s best, as well as most affordable insurers. Insurance companies were rated on communication, speed to settle a claim, helpfulness, value for money and overall service.
Topping the list was the NFU Mutual, which received praise for its local, personal service, and its efficiency. 97 per cent of customers said they plan to renew their policy with NFU Mutual. Despite its great ratings, NFU Mutual policies were not the cheapest.
At the bottom of the 40 insurance companies in the survey was Diamond, criticised for mistakes in policy documents and the fact that one customer who had to wait two years for their claim to be settled.
As part of a ‘mystery shopper’ element of the survey, a number of quotes were requested for three different professions of different ages: In all three instances Esure offered the cheapest quotes.
Other findings included the fact that 35 per cent of respondents said their premium had gone up on the previous year, compared to 50 per cent of respondents in last year’s survey.
Aside from NFU Mutual in the top spot, LV and Frizzel came joint second, followed by Adelaide IAM Surety, Royal and Sun Alliance, Saga, Liverpool Victoria, John Lewis Insurance, RIAS, Groupama and Co-operative Insurance.
With petrol costs so high, many motorists will be encouraged by the fact that only 35 per cent of respondents said their cover had gone up. While shopping around for cheaper petrol may only reduce driving costs a little, many drivers are looking to cut costs by finding cheaper insurers, vehicle recovery providers and of course, more fuel efficient cars.
