“The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.” – So said one wise Mr. Scott of the USS Enterprise. As a provider of car breakdown cover, it’s a viewpoint we’re fairly familiar with here at startrescue.co.uk, and it might be tempting to apply it to Aston Martin’s new AM 310 Vanquish.
The £189,995 supercar seems to be bristling with all kinds of fancy technological advancements, including a bonded aluminium structure and a ‘significantly upgraded’ version of the firm’s 6 litre V12 engine. It boasts a new ‘Aero Duct’ spoiler to help counter high-speed lift, and LED light blades that set it apart from other Aston models, and make it look sleeker than a Romulan War Bird.
You also get a six speed ‘Touch Tronic 2’ paddle shift gearbox together with a launch control system – the first to appear in an Aston. With additions like this, you might be forgiven for thinking the AM 310 is some sort of spaceship.
Light speed, however, is a tad beyond its capability: but it does offer an impressive top speed of 183mph, which means you’re paying just over a grand for every mile of velocity; not cheap, but not slow either.
Despite its cosmic look and intergalactic specs, however, the AM 310 also offers plenty of space for the shopping: 368 litres to be exact, which outstrips the workaday Ford Focus by 52 litres.
Those lucky enough to be able to afford this dazzling car will be able to get hold of one by the start of 2013.
