There's one species of car that has seldom had to call upon its breakdown cover - and if any of their number have, it has not been well publicised - namely, those proud automotives that have ferried Her Majesty around at some point over the last 60 years. At this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, you'll be able to see them all together for the very first time.
And this isn't a half-hearted attempt at gathering a few dusty Rolls-Royces together. The organsiers have gone to impressive lengths to get hold of all modes of transport used by the Queen on state visits and trips around the world. Car fans will be able to enjoy these vehicles in six distinct groups: Limousines, official Overseas State Visit travel, Working Cars, Personal Family Cars, Aviation, Rail and Horse-drawn vehicles, and, last but not least, Royal Household Toy Cars.
Among the many highlights will be the Citroën SM Decapotable, a Chapron-bodied vehicle used by the Queen on her 1972 State visit to France, together with a 1929 Daimler Double Six 30hp Brougham - and a truly classic 1961 Rolls-Royce Phantom V.
The collection has of course been put together as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations being held this summer.
Taking place from June 28-July 1, Goodwood Festival of Speed Tickets must be booked in advance from the Goodwood website. Adult ticket prices start at £39, with young person (aged 13-22) tickets at around half that price. Children under 13 get in free, but a free child's ticket will need to be ordered online.
