As the buzz increases around the forthcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, the weird and the wonderful offerings from the world’s leading car companies are starting to appear in the media across the world. One of the most interesting, perhaps, is the Peugeot HX1, which will constitute the French firm’s main offering at the famous German motor show next month.

The images released by Peugeot will be making fans of the car brand salivate – as it will those who love science fiction – because this car wouldn’t look out of place on the set of a space opera. But it is the space inside that will also raise eyebrows; its 4.95 metre length provides space for up to 6 people, a length that exceeds that of the Ford Galaxy, itself a vehicle with impressive capacity. Conversely, it is actually lower than a Mini.

Other interesting features of the car include four ‘reverse opening’ side doors that open in an upwards direction and spokes on each wheel that, when the car reaches high speeds, automatically open in order to create a flat surface (thus reducing air resistance).

When the car goes above 62mph, a spoiler along with two side skirts on top of the tailgate extend, thus improving performance. One cannot help wondering if these are just more things that can go wrong though.

Given the size of this vehicle, one might almost expect that van breakdown insurance would be a more appropriate breakdown policy for it, but despite its unusually large capacity, this car’s stunningly futuristic looks make it the kind of road car that may well be appearing on many a driveway in coming years.
