Sometimes the world of vehicles isn't all that interesting – when asking yourself: where should I buy van breakdown insurance from? - being as exciting as it gets. But the recent launch of the new Range Rover added a touch of sparkle to the realm of autos. Helping to add a bit of glamour to proceedings were Team GB Olympic gold medallists Victoria Pendelton and Zara Philips.
The launch took place at the National Ballet School in Richmond, London. The event saw a Range Rover drive through a pool of water, then ascend a causeway and come to a stop outside the White Lodge – an official residence of the National Ballet School.
The founder of Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler, also appeared at the event, providing the gathered audience with some live music.
It's easy to see why Zara Philips was chosen to pose next to the new Range Rover, as she explains: “I seem to spend my life driving between Cheltenham and the yard at Gatcombe. My Range Rover is always caked in mud and filled with everything I need and our two dogs, Sway and Storm, who come pretty much everywhere with me.”
But Vicky Pendelton might not be seen as the archetypal Range Rover driver. She has been chosen, no doubt for her amazing Olympic performances, and the fact she is British – both things the JLR brand aspires to.
Range Rover will be hoping the pair's gold medal success will rub off on the model and the executives will be hoping it will enjoy similar runaway success as the car maker's Evoque.
