If you’ve ever spent much time in central London, you may have noticed the odd souped-up version of the Range Rover – bearing the name Overfinch. At first it can seem like you’ve drifted into a parallel universe in which this famous four wheel drive somehow became known by another name.
Indeed, spend enough time wandering around the centre of the capital, and you’ll soon start to wonder if JLR have gone for a re-brand on their popular SUV. But Overfinch is in fact a company that specialises in enhancing Range Rovers, normally for the rich and famous.
After being in the hands of Overfinch, each vehicle is completely unique. A huge array of modifications can be selected by the owner, from special hides for the seating which normally doesn’t get seen outside of private jets, to two-tone paint jobs that can take up to 130 hours to complete.
These mods are by no means cheap, but there appears to be a never-ending source of British celebrities who want an Overfinch overhaul.
Based in Leeds, Overfinch started life in 1975 and has now modified every version of the Range Rover as well as the Range Rover Sport.
Alongside superficial changes, the Overfinch team have also added enhanced gearboxes, engines and other noticeably improved internal components – and in the process has, perhaps surprisingly, not made the owner of the vehicle more likely to call their vehicle recovery provider.
Indeed, Overfinch won the Special Recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Design from Ford in 2005.
