In the sixth outing from Vin Diesel and company, the collection of criminal street racers have retired on the profits of the Rio heist featured in the previous movie, Fast Five (2011). But as attractive as they are, watching these muscly/supermodel-esque car lovers living in their luxurious houses for two hours would soon get dull.
Enter the Rock, or Agent Hobbs as he’s called in the film, with a new mission for the team. He needs their help to stop a team of baddies who have been stealing dangerous military technology and selling it to the highest bidder. Vin Diesel (Dominic Moretto) is unconvinced, until Hobbs tells him his ex-girlfriend (who he thought was dead) is actually part of the enemy team. Of course, Moretto has to accept, as do all his Furious buddies.
So the action turns to London, where most of the story plays out. If you’ve seen the previous movies, you will expect some seriously impressive car racing – and with Furious 6 you won’t be disappointed. The action comes thick and fast, and the directors have made the capital look pretty amazing.
From a breakdown point of view, one group of people who would not be interested in startrescue.co.uk’s competitive annual breakdown cover is the team from Furious 6. They are wizards at fixing up vehicles that are so badly damaged even our own engineers might have difficulty repairing them!
Verdict
If you’re looking for fast-paced, beautifully shot car (and tank) chases, then Furious 6 won’t disappoint. But if you’re looking for complex dialogue and an intriguing plot with multiple twists and turns, you won’t find either. However, it’s good clean fun with some witty banter among the well-established characters. Just leave your brain at the pop-corn stand.
