Ford has won the International Van of the Year Award 2014 with its all-new Transit Connect. The award, which has now been won by Ford twice consecutively, was given at the COMTRANS commercial vehicle exhibition in Moscow.

A jury of 24 European specialist journalists awarded the Connect 130 points out of a possible 163, putting it well ahead of the main competition, namely the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (123 points) and the Renault Kangoo (just 25 points). Ford has now won the award five times, a record shared with only one other manufacturer (Fiat).

Ford came out on top with the Transit in 2001, the Transit Connect in 2003, the Transit once again in 2007, and the Transit Custom in 2013 (alongside the Connect).

Vice President of Product Development for Ford of Europe, Barb Samardzich said, “The all-new Transit Connect has moved the game on for compact vans – and we are really proud to win this significant award again. The new Transit Connect is just as tough and hard-working as all our commercial vehicle range, and comes with smart new looks and much lower fuel bills.”

There are currently four vehicles in the Transit range: the Connect, the Transit Custom, a 2-tonne Transit, and the Transit Courier. These last two will be launched in 2014. Ford plans to redesign its entire commercial vehicle range over the next two years.

For those among our van breakdown insurance customers keen to find out more about the Connect, the ECOnetic model delivers an impressive 70.6mpg, and boasts CO2 emissions of only 105g/km.

With a total load volume of 2.9 square metres (3.6 with a full bulkhead), this is a spacious vehicle. Van, Double-Cab-in-Van and Kombi body styles are available.
