Lending your car to your son or daughter can be a stressful affair. Will they drive safely? Will they keep to the speed limit? Will they fasten their seatbelts? Will they annoy the whole community by playing Gangnam Style at ear-popping levels?
The good news, for parents at least, is that all these problems can be combatted with Ford's new MyKey technology, available in the latest incarnation of the Fiesta.
A master key, kept by a parent or guardian, can be used to set certain limits on a lesser key, which is then given to the offspring to drive the Fiesta.
Want to cap their speed at 60mph? Want to disable the stereo until all seatbelts have been fastened? Want to ensure that Gangnam Style is emitted at such a low volume that it is no more troublesome to the ears of passers-by than a gentle Radio 4 play? Want to keep track of mileage and average speed? This can all be done with Ford's impressive MyKey system.
The bad news, of course, is that the son or daughter, who thought they would be able to drive down the local high street at silly speeds with their favourite Korean pop song drawing blood from the ears of all nearby pedestrians, will no longer be able to do so.
Volvo came up with this technology several years back, but Ford has made it affordable with MyKey.
MyKey is one of the more prominent features in the latest Ford Fiesta, which itself remains a very impressive, fuel efficient car. And when you combine a good vehicle recovery breakdown cover policy with MyKey, you’re sure to have real peace of mind. Your offspring, however, may not be so enthusiastic.
