Sliding doors. No matter how many reviews you read about the new Ford B-Max, most will revolve (slide?) around the sliding doors.
They tend to give the feel of an APC (armoured personnel vehicle) rather than an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), especially as far as your 10 year old son is concerned – if you have one.
But the B-Max arguably has a good deal more going for it than novel rear doors – which admittedly do help you storm the supermarket much more quickly than before, and ensure your kids can get out in narrow parking situations without damaging the car in the next bay. This Romanian built vehicle also offers a good deal of space inside, increasing from a modest 318 litres when the rear seats are up to an impressive 1,103 litres when they are down. The roof height is ample, making for a very spacious ride, and the visibility is fairly good. There is an optional £600 rear camera setup available though, which would make parking a good deal easier – especially if you’re commonly confronted with tricky parking situations (particularly multi-storey car parks).
Overall the B-Max represents a spacious family vehicle that should provide decent competition to the increasingly popular offerings from South Korea.
Don’t let the fact it’s built in Romania put you off either, it’s well put-together and you shouldn’t need vehicle recovery for this model any more than for your average Ford!
