Despite the rather unwelcome images of multiple broken, twisted Ferraris in last week’s Japanese supercar pileup involving 14 cars, Ferrari are unlikely to have had their image tarnished too badly. But to help take people’s minds off notions of vehicle recovery services and twisted F40s, Ferarri has launched the 599 GTB ‘60F1’.
Where does the ‘60F1’ part come from, you may ask? Well since Ferrari has enjoyed 60 years of success in Formula One, the firm thought it would be nice to mark the occasion with a new car – hence ‘60F1’. But don’t get too excited, the new model is not a great deal different from the original 599 GTB.
Only the paint job and the trim (and the badge, of course) let you know that Ferrari has done anything different with this celebratory version. If you’re lucky enough to be able to stump up enough cash to secure one for your garage, you’ll get the choice of three liveries – one based on Froilan Gonzalez's 375 F1 car – from 1951 – and two on Fernando Alonso’s 2011 150 Italia; the liveries were chosen to encompass the six decades of F1 success.
You also get 20 inch diamond finished alloy wheels, a fancy filler cap and scuderia shields on the front wings. American buyers get ‘Recaros’ seats, while Europeans get bucket seats – both are covered in an extra grippy material called Alutex, which ensures you remain firmly in your seat as you put the pedal to the floor.
