Whether you take out car or motorcycle cover with us, or whether you buy van breakdown cover from us, the monthly top 10 best-selling car report makes fascinating reading for most motorists – especially a month like the February just passed.

February is traditionally a quiet month for motor sales, as buyers wait for the plate change in March. However, figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that car sales have risen once again. In total, 66,749 new cars were sold across the UK, up by 7.9% on the previous month. This is the 12th consecutive month in which sales have gone up, despite an unimpressive economic outlook. But that figure, while impressive, will pale by comparison to March’s registration figures, assuming the SMMT’s forecast of 372,000 registrations does materialise.

Ford occupies the top 2 spots with its ever-popular Focus and Fiesta models, while Vauxhall’s Corsa and Astra take positions 3 and 5. Nestled in between at 4 is VW’s Golf. The top 5 is comprised entirely of small cars with impressive mpg figures and comparatively low price tags. However, the only one of these cars that can be found for under £10,000 is the Corsa.
