For those among our motorbike breakdown cover customers who only know a little about motorcycle racing, the name Valentino Rossi probably comes to mind. But, as Mark Neale’s new documentary Fastest reveals, there is a great deal more to this sport than just one man.
In this film Neale asks the very pertinent question – who will succeed Rossi? A whole host of pretenders to the throne appear throughout the documentary, which delivers a firm grounding in the sport for those who know little more than Rossi’s name.
The documentary follows two other Neale films on motorcycle racing, namely 2003’s Faster and The Doctor, the Tornado and the Kentucky Kid – from 2006.For those who don’t already know, ‘The Doctor’ is Rossi’s nickname.
Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo is focussed on a good deal in the film, a rider who arguably came of age in the 2010 season, when he put Rossi under a lot of pressure – to the degree where Rossi fell at his home Mugello GP and broke his tibia.
For those who want to discover the basics of modern day motorcycle racing, Fastest offers a thrilling introduction to the sport, combining plenty of great interviews with adrenaline pumping on-track action. The film ultimately reminds us how competitive the sport is, vividly portraying the key rivalries.
Fastest is available on both DVD (9.99) and BluRay (15.99).
