As many of our motorcycle breakdown cover customers will know, the Goodwood Festival of Speed has been showing off the latest and greatest in motorcycles and motorcyclists since 1993.
And this year should prove to be one of the most impressive yet, with a host of famous bikers and bikes from past and present. Giacomo Agostini and Kenny Roberts, arguably two of the world’s most talented and accomplished riders, will be present at this year’s Goodwood, along with many others.
Freddie Spencer, Kevin Schwantz and Randy Mamola of American grand prix fame will appear, as will four-time 500cc championship winner John Surtees, who is well regarded at Goodwood for introducing the first bike display at the Festival.
As well as human legends, some of the machines that helped them win so many titles will also be on display. “Fast Freddie” Spencer will be able to reminisce with the actual Honda NSR500 that he rode to victory in 1985 – bagging both the 500cc and 250cc titles in the same season.
Kenny Roberts will also be providing plenty of two-wheeled eye candy, in the form of the Yamaha YZR500 on which he clutched three titles in 1980, and a bike his team built itself – the Proton KR3 – on which Jeremy Williams qualified for pole in the Australian MotoGP.
For film fans, a replica of the Captain America chopper will be present, ridden by none other than Peter Fonda himself.
All things considered, the biker aspect of this year’s GFoS looks set to be unforgettable.
The Festival of Speed takes place from 12th July to 14th July.
It looks set to be an excitng event.
